KANSAS CITY, MO – A Democratic Unity Debate Watch Party will be held Sunday, January 17th at UMKC. The idea was conceived by leaders of the Kansas City for Hillary Clinton and Kansas City for Bernie Sanders volunteer groups in conjunction with the Jackson County Democratic Party and Young Democrats. The volunteer leaders of the two main presidential campaigns came together to plan this event, noting the importance of having a united Democratic Party after the primary is over.
The Democratic Unity Debate Watch Party will focus on the commonalities between the Democratic candidates in contrast with the Republican candidates. The Republican agenda, if enacted, would be detrimental to the more than 90% of our population who are not wealthy. It would stifle the opportunities for our youth, and would morally relegate us to a time of the past. While Republicans are fighting for attention by resorting to heated rhetoric, the three Democratic candidates agree on the basics of the issues – increasing the minimum wage, reforming immigration, gun control, and more.
Supporters of all Presidential candidates are encouraged to attend the event. The program will begin at 7:00pm and the debate begins at 8:00pm. The event is being held at UMKC’s Haag Hall in Room 301. An event invite is available here.
